A 37-year-old has pleaded guilty to burglary following a break-in at Priestfield stadium.

Samuel Turner, of Gordon Road, Gillingham, is alleged to have stolen a safe containing six leather-bound journals dating back to 1900 from the home of Gillingham Football Club.

The items were taken from an office at the club's stadium during the early hours of Thursday (January 7).

He was arrested on the same day and latercharged with one count of burglary.

He was remanded in custody and appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court today.

Turner issued a guilty plea and has been remanded in custody to appear before Maidstone Crown Court at a later date.

Another 37-year-old man from Gillingham who was also arrested in connection with the incident, has since been released on bail pending further enquiries, until February 3.
