A man has been charged with two counts of kidnap after an alleged attempt to snatch two women in Gillingham on Saturday.

Sergiu Varga, 23, who is originally from Romania, was arrested and charged with two counts of false imprisonment following two separate incidents in the town on Saturday.

Very few details have been released, but it is understood both women were able to alert police soon after the incidents happened.

Varga, of Greenview Walk, Gillingham, is expected to appear before magistrates in Medway later today.
