A fly tipper has been fined £5,000 for abandoning building waste, including broken tiles, glass and a toilet.

Medway council environmental enforcement officers attended the scene in Grove Road, Chatham and gathered evidence.

An investigation was launch last year and discovered it was Paul Chisholm, 40, of Bedonwell Road, Belvedere, who dumped the rubbish.

Mr Chisholm failed to comply with a section 108 notice as part of the Environment Act 1995 and was charged with fly-tipping and failing to produce waste transfer documents.

He pleaded guilty to both charges and Magistrates ordered him to pay ordered to pay £5,000 plus £500 victim surcharge and £619.54 court costs, totalling £6,119.54.

Cllr Jane Chitty, Medway Council’s portfolio holder covering enforcement, said: “Fly-tipping is not tolerated in Medway. This man thought he could ignore the court by not obeying the summons. "Instead he was arrested and brought to justice.

"He has now been ordered to pay thousands of pounds, which reflects the seriousness of his actions.

"Fly-tipping is against the law and it is unsightly for both residents and visitors.

"We are committed to investigating fly-tipping and anyone found to be dumping rubbish will be prosecuted.”
