Gillingham man charged after cash machine robbery in High Street

A man has appeared in court accused of mugging a woman at a cash point while she was taking out money.

Police arrested and charged Thomas Arnold following the incident in Gillingham town centre.

It was reported the victim was withdrawing cash from the machine in the High Street shortly after 3pm on January 5.

Arnold, 30, was allegedly standing behind her and pushed her out of the way before taking money and running off towards Canterbury Street.

Officers investigating the incident arrested Arnold, of Brompton Road, Gillingham at about 9.45am on January 11.

He has since been charged with robbery following an invesitgation by police.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court on Monday and has been remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on February 9.
