A man was rushed to hospital with stab wounds after he and a friend were confronted by a gang of eight teenagers and robbed.

The incident happened shortly after 11.30pm on Saturday in The Vines behind Rochester High Street.

The pair were walking home after a night out when they were targeted by the group, thought to be aged between 15 and 18.

A 20-year-old man had his mobile phone and coat stolen and the second victim, a 19-year -old man, reported his phone missing.

Both men were assaulted during the attack. The 20-year-old was rushed to hospital with several wounds and his condition is not said to be serious.

His mum took to Facebook to vent her distress saying he was stabbed three times. She also warned other parents to be vigilant.

Lesley Gordon, from Rochester, said: "I am so angry and upset and confused. Last night my son went for dinner on Rochester High Street with five mates to celebrate one of their birthdays. At about 11.30pm they left the restaurant and were walking home.

"They took the short cut through the vines and were confronted by a group of about eight youngsters who attacked and robbed them. My son was stabbed three times.

"To all parents out there please warn your children to be vigilant and more aware of what's going on."

The post went on to thank all of those that helped during the incident, including police, paramedics, hospital staff and an eyewitness who came forward with information.

One of the offenders is described as a young white male, of chunky build with blonde hair. He was wearing a hooded top, blue jeans and white trainers.

Detective Inspector Beverley Morrison said: ‘We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen – or have dash cam footage of – the incident.

‘We would also like to hear from anyone who recognises the description of the offender or who has information about the robbery.’

Rochester MP Kelly Tolhurst has offered her support to residents. She posted on Facebook: "I have been in contact with the chief inspector at Medway police this morning.

"At this stage it appears to have been an isolated incident but anyone who thinks they have any information or witnessed any activity please can you report it to police.
