A man talked down from a railway bridge, meaning services were cancelled for five hours, has been arrested for obstructing the line
Trains through Gillingham station have resumed after the man descended just before 2pm, after being there since 8.40am.
It took a while for Southeastern to re-organise and the first service to Victoria ran at 3.13pm.
Previously all trains had been halted and the electric rail turned off in case the man fell.
There was also serious disruption on town centre roads as Kent Police closed part of Railway Street at the junction with High Street while their colleagues in British Transport Police dealt with the matter.
Train services were replaced with buses during the incident.
Southeastern has apologised for the disruption and said that anyone whose journey was delayed by more than 15 minutes could claim compensation via its delay-repay link here.
The man has now been arrested by British Transport Police for obstructing a rail-line.
There is still some disruption to services and passengers are advised to check before travelling.
There is also still disruption to services between Sittingbourne and Sheerness after a boat hit the Kingsferry bridge .
