Police, fire and SECAmb called out to man trapped in a trench on Commissioners Road, Strood, by a fallen gas pipe

A man has been flown to hospital with spinal injuries after he was hit by a gas pipe.

The victim, who is in his 40s, was working in a trench laying pipes in Commissioners Road, Strood, this afternoon when the accident occurred.

Kent Police, SECAmb and Kent Fire and Rescue were called out to the scene at 2.07pm.

He was taken to Kings Hospital with spinal injuries.

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed of the incident.
