It might be a 21st Century metropolis preparing for the Olympics but London needed a Medway bus firm to keep commuters moving.

In the capital there was widespread disruption with tube lines deserted and buses on all routes suspended.

And that once you got there. For the hundreds of people needing to get to the office from the Towns there was further misery with Southeastern Trains cancelling all services.

But for Gillingham based coach operator the Kings Ferry, business was normal.

The firm ran all 36 services into London from Medway and Swale to the delight of its regular passengers.

Staff implemented contingency plans on Sunday evening. All vehicles and drivers were able to get away on time.

Ian Fraser, operation director at The Kings Ferry, said: “We feel we have an obligation to carry all of our passengers whatever the situation and we will always do whatever we can to ensure a service runs every single working day for our commuter customers.

“At times like this access to information is key and we use every method available to us to keep everybody informed.’

The company also reacted quickly to the changing situation in London, by adding five extra services commencing at 9am on Today from Victoria and operating every 30 minutes until 11am to carry those passengers home who were instructed to leave early by their employers.

As the morning rush subsides, the operations team at The Kings Ferry are already busy making plans to get all of their passengers home again this evening
