A Medway boxing club has had a flood of inquiries from girls and women wanting to take up the sport.

The surge of interest comes as Olympics fever sweops across the Towns with hundreds reaching for their track suits and trainers.

No sooner had the London Games 2012 drawn to a close would-be sportsmen throughout the Towns were eager to leap into action.

Boxing clubs were inundated with calls from girls and women keen to sign up after Nicola Adams became the first female ever to win a gold medal

And membership of the Medway Towns Rowing Club was set to rise after Team GB picked up four gold, two silver and three bronze at Eton Dorney.

The trend was triggered in week one when Bradley Wiggins rode home to gold in the men's cycling. Bike sales rocketed by 100 per cent in one bike shop in Strood.

As David Ripley from Strood Amateur Boxing Club said: "People have spent two weeks watching it on the television. Now it's time to have a go."
