Medway heralds Chinese year of snake

Colourful celebrations to mark the Chinese New Year delighted shoppers in Chatham on Saturday.

Dancers, opera singers, puppeteers, and martial arts specialists welcomed in the Year of the Snake.

The High Street transformed into a menagerie of delights for people to see with youngsters from the Dance Ally Dancers group performing colourful routines.

Cantonese opera singer, Peng, corr, who is from Hong Kong, performed traditional songs to the crowds and street entertainers in Chinese costume delighted youngsters.

Celebrations were staged near Argos and in the Pentagon Centre, for most of the day.

The Lion Team from Foshan, and The ShiKon Martial Arts Team corr, stopped shoppers in their tracks with their stunning displays.

The celebrations continue on Sunday, February 17, with Medway’s Chinese New Year Parade.

The Wonderful China show with dancing, martial arts, music and magic will also staged at The Central Theatre, in Chatham, at 2.30pm that day.
