A factory which can turn out 1,000 modular homes a year could be coming to the Hoo Peninsula – creating 250 jobs in the process.
Housebuilders Berkeley Homes wants to set up a production plant at Kingsnorth Industrial Estate where properties will be built before being transported to a permanent location.
The management team behind Berkeley Modular are carrying carrying out consultations with residents and other interested parties to gauge views of proposals.
Last year, the company opened its first factory in Northfleet where homes are manufactured using automated production technologies from the aerospace and automotive sectors.
Each module, of varying sizes and requirements leaves fully fitted and finished and ready to be moved to anywhere in the South East.
The homes don't look any different to on-site built properties and can be delivered more quickly than traditional construction methods.
Berkeley Modular spokesman Richard Parry said: "This is future of housebuilding. They can be produced to bespoke designs and sizes, create less waste."
The company's planning manager Hannah Haddad said: "Our priorities as we develop our plans include providing a high-quality new development, sympathetic to the local landscape and enriching the bio-diversity on the site – creating ecological improvements of at least 20%.
"We are committed to being a good neighbour and will work with the community to ensure the development is a positive addition to the area.
"The public consultation will ensure people can input into the plans, provider feedback and ask questions before we submit a planning application."
The new 28,000 sq metre factory will have a gym, cafeteria, "break out space", research, development rooms and offices.
There will also be a shuttle bus service, electric vehicle charging points and cycle spaces.
Within the company, 10% of employees are currently in "earn and learn" roles as graduates, apprentices or sponsored students.
The in-person consultation event is from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday (June 29) at Hundred of Hoo Academy, Main Road, Hoo, where members of the project team will be on hand to answer questions.
If you are unable to attend either, the event will be recorded and available to view afterwards on the consultation website.
