Motorists have been warned to plan ahead as part of a busy road closes for more than two weeks during the upcoming school holidays.

The B2004 Lower Rainham Road is set to be shut between Berengrave Lane and Pomeroy Avenue.

It will be closed for 18 days to allow for the installation of a raised table – a type of speed bump with a long, flat section typically used at junctions.

They can improve crossing facilities for pedestrians.

Kerbs will also be installed alongside the raised table and the existing road will be surfaced.

The work will start on Monday, July 29 and is due to be completed by Thursday, August 15.

Medway Council posted a warning for drivers this morning (July 8) and advised them to plan their journey.

It said: “No other works will be allowed in the nearby area (or on the diversion route) as part of our Network Management Duty to maintain as much of the public highway as possible.

“Exceptions would be emergency works and those works already agreed.”

A signposted diversion route will be set up. According to one.network it is 10.81km and would take around 15 minutes.

Motorists will be diverted via Lower Rainham Road (B2004), Yokosuka Way (A289), Ito Way (A289), Sovereign Boulevard (A2), London Road (A2), High Street (A2) and Otterham Quay Lane.
