Traffic was gridlocked on the M2 due to what’s believed to be a police incident.

The motorway was closed in both directions from Junction 1, Strood, to J3 at Chatham and Rochester.

Traffic was diverted off at junction 2.

One driver reported that all three lanes were trying to get off the nearest slip road at once, as although there were overhead warnings of lane closures, the cones weren't staggered.

The road has since reopened.

Police have been contacted for more information on the nature of the incident.
