A KENT MP has made it his New Year's resolution to see fox hunting banned in the United Kingdom. Medway's Labour MP Bob Marshall-Andrews is calling for hunting with dogs to be banned by Parliament this year.
He said: "The vast majority of local people, and the British public in general, want a ban and it is my New Year Resolution to see that legislation under way in the next year.
"The overwhelming majority of MPs have repeatedly voted for a ban only to see it blocked by the Lords. Now is the time to introduce a new Bill with the appropriate government time and support to ensure it cannot be stopped by such undemocratic tactics again."
Campaigning to Protect Hunted Animals (CPHA), which comprises the RSPCA, the LECS and the IFAW, has welcomed the MP's support.
CPHA also point out that a Bill to ban hunting with dogs has been backed by Scottish Parliament and is on its way to become legislation.
John Rolls, of the CPHA, said: "It would certainly be a great New Year for thousands of animals if hunting with dogs is banned. We are extremely grateful for the support of all the MPs who are determined to end this cruelty once and for all."
