The new man in charge of Medway Maritime Hospital is encouraging patients to nominate a member of staff who has really made a difference.

The Medway Messenger has once again teamed up with Medway NHS Foundation Trust to launch a readers’ Hospital Hero award.

We want to hear from anyone who feels someone at the hospital has gone above and beyond the call of duty to deliver outstanding care.

From cleaners and porters to midwives, doctors or surgeons, or even volunteers – if you feel someone has done their job well, let us know.

Nigel Beverley, interim chief executive, said: “NHS staff work extremely hard, saving lives and improving lives through delivering services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

“I’m really pleased to be at Medway for this annual event which I know staff across the organisation look forward to. It’s a time to recognise outstanding achievements and to celebrate what we do well at Medway.”

The staff awards, now in their 12th year, are organised by the trust’s Improving Working Lives team.

Last year's winners were Dr Surendra Singham and nurse Cally Carter. They were put forward by mum Charmaine Kember after they cared for her daughter Annabelle.

To nominate someone for the 2014 award, write to Hospital Hero, communications department, Postgraduate Centre, Medway Maritime Hospital, Windmill Road, Gillingham, Kent ME7 5NY, or email communications@medway.nhs.uk

Include a short description of why you think they deserve the award and what department they work in, as well as your contact details. The closing date is May 20.

The winner, chosen by the Improving Working Lives team and Medway Messenger editor Bob Bounds, will be announced later this year.
