An elderly paedophile who has committed offences all over the country as well as in the Netherlands is back behind bars after breaching court orders.

A judge said of David Bristow, now living in Chatham: “His interest is perfectly clear and well established.”

The 70-year-old pensioner has appeared in court 20 times for 48 offences – 33 of them for sexual offences.

Maidstone Crown Court (3763486)

He landed back in trouble by breaching the terms of a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) and failing to comply with the terms of the sex offenders’ register.

Maidstone Crown Court heard when police made checks on Bristow at his home in Chelmer Road on July 3, the memory on a tablet had been wiped.

He had gone to an O2 shop on June 30 and a factory reset was carried out against the terms of the SHPO.

Bristow also failed to inform the police within three days that he had opened an ISA account with a bank.

Prosecutor Andrew Forsyth said Bristow had previously been jailed for similar breaches. He had served sentences of 10 years and nine years.

He was recalled to custody after serving half of a 13-month sentence imposed on April 20. He committed the breaches within days of his release.

Judge Julian Smith said Bristow’s history incorporated “all manner of sexual offending over the years”, adding: “It is no minor breach to have a bank account of which the police are unaware because it gives financial flexibility. It is a deliberate breach on each occasion.”

The tablet was not functioning and there was no way of knowing what was on it.

Sara Haroon, defending, said Bristow, who admitted the breaches, had suffered sexual abuse himself as a child.

Judge Smith jailed Bristow for 10 months.
