Pair arrested after crash in Strood released without charge

Two people arrested after a crash which killed a mother and daughter in Strood earlier this year have been released without charge.

The pair, a 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman both from Chatham, were arrested on Thursday, July 30, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving although they were not in the car that hit the two women.

The crash happened on Sunday, July 26, killing Elsie Blades, 84, and her 60-year-old daughter Marilyn Herlihy.

The 21-year-old, the driver of a Ford Fiesta, was in the area at the time, but did not hit the couple.

The woman is thought to have been a passenger in his car.

Another man, and 18-year-old man from Medway who was driving of the silver Seat Ibiza, which struck the pair, has been bailed pending further inquiries until, Friday, January 15.
