A dad will be dressing like Elvis and singing his hits to help raise money for the hospital unit which saved his daughter’s life.
Phil Gaffin will be performing outside Harvey’s furniture store in Gillingham on Saturday in aid of the Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Unit, the Medway Messenger’s charity of the year.
Phil’s daughter Erin was born by emergency caesarean section on May 8 this year, weighing just 4lb 6oz.
She was struggling to breathe and started fitting so she was rushed to the neonatal unit.
After three weeks on the ward, Phil and partner Jayne, from Chatham, were finally able to take their little bundle of joy home and Erin is now a happy and healthy 11-week-old.
Phil said: “The staff at the unit were fantastic. I will be in debt to
them all my life."
He added: "I cannot do enough to thank them but everything I can do for them, I will.”
Harvey’s stores across the country are raising money for their chosen charities on Saturday.
When the Gillingham team came to choose which cause they would be supporting, Phil ensured it was the Oliver Fisher trust.
A donation of £5 will be made for every sale made on the day and all of the staff have agreed to boost the funds by donating any commission they earn in store.
Phil, who works as a sales advisor, will be singing Elvis hits at the entrance and there will be face painting for children and burgers for sale.
The fundraising day runs from 9am to 6pm at the shop in Ambley Road, Gillingham Business Park.
