Plans have been submitted to develop a former timber yard into over a hundred new houses and flats.
The site of Morgan Timber Yard in Knight Road, Strood could see 168 homes built under the proposal put forward by Morgan and Co.
The family-run timber company was started up by brothers Arthur and Samuel Morgan and opened in 1910.
After 100 years of business, directors Robert and Derek Morgan, who are third-generation cousins, decided to retire and close the business last September.
Now the site is earmarked for hundreds of new homes featuring a mix of 1,2,3 and four-bedroom houses and flats.
Also included in the plans are 324 parking spaces, a children’s play area and green spaces
Designs for the plans have been drawn up by Hester Architects.
The application says: “Proposals will accord with the principles of high-quality design and best practice to create a townscape that is varied and sympathetic to its environment.
“The aim is to achieve a development with a strong identity and distinct sense of place whilst at the same time, integrates with the existing community.”
Demolition of the existing buildings would be needed and developers will need to raise the land due to the site’s flood risk.
So far there has been a mixed reaction of support and objections to the plans.
To view the full application can be found on Medway Council’s planning portal here using reference MC/23/2680.
The plans will form part of a larger project to transform the Strood waterfront.
The redevelopment aims to see 620 homes built and is nearing completion of the first phase.
