Plans to rework roads to accommodate the opening of new stores in a retail park have been revealed.

Horsted Retail Park in Maidstone Road, Chatham, is due to have an Aldi, KFC drive-thru, Home Bargains and UFC Gym.

Work to transform a disused unit which used to be Toys R Us into a Home Bargains and a UFC Gym began last week.

Land owners Royal London plans to make use highway improvements to facilitate the opening of the stores.

These include widening the exit to the retail park with two lanes, and the southern approach to the A229 Maidstone Road will also be widened.

A new pedestrian crossing and footpath are also planned, as well as a detection system on a new Toucan crossing letting road users exit the retail park on Shirley Avenue.

In a notice sent to residents, Royal London stated that there was no expected disruption to the rest of the retail park, home to Pets at Home, Currys PC World, Homebase, Holiday Inn and YouFit Rochester.

The improvements to the highway are expected to begin in late June.

Plans for the disused site in Maidstone Road were approved last month.

The site will be opened to the public by spring 2020.
