Kent Police and coastguard helicopters responds to woman in distress in the River Medway

Police and coastguard officers were called to an incident in the early hours of Saturday morning following reports of a person in distress in the River Medway.

Kent Police was called at 1.31am on Saturday, February 9 to Chatham Docks after reports of someone in the River near Sun Pier shouting for help.

Officers attended the scene with assistance from a police helicopter. A coastguard helicopter was also deployed from Lydd.

Two coastguard teams spent two and half hours searching the River from Gun Wharf to Rochester Bridge. Lifeboats were also dispatched from the RNLI station in Sheerness.

Kent Fire and Rescue also responded, searching the area with powerful lighting.


A woman was located safe and well on the bank of the River.
