His mobile telephone and gold necklace were reported missing, and he was taken to hospital for checks but discharged later that day.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Kelly Tindall said: "We are particularly keen to speak to a group of up to six white men, thought to be aged between 16 and 24, who may have been in the area at the time of the incident and may have information about the circumstances of how the man became injured."

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact DC Kelly Tindall at Kent Police by calling 01634 792209 and quoting crime reference XY/430/16.

Alternatively contact Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
