A pedestrian has been taken to hospital in London, after being hit by a car outside Rochester Cathedral.

The precinct area was cordoned off following the incident, which happened just before 12.30pm, and officers were seen carrying out inquiries.

One bystander said they thought a woman got hit by a car, and police had closed the road for around two hours.

A cafe worker based near the scene said the incident happened around noon, adding: “I was downstairs and came up. There were a lot of ambulances and someone came in and asked for one of our umbrellas to shade them.

“I don't think they died they were just injured. They took them away in an ambulance."

South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed they were called just before 12.30pm after reports of a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian.

SECAmb sent two cars and an ambulance, and the patient was treated at the scene before being taken to Kings College Hospital in London, with a leg injury.

The road has since reopened.
