Sniffer dogs search Strood and police arrest man from Woolwich on suspicion of stealing a car

A man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing a vehicle after a search involving police dogs.

At around 10.15pm yesterday, police officers became suspicious of a car in Rochester and tried to get the vehicle to pull over.

However, the driver continued going until he finally stopped in Elaine Avenue in Strood.

He then leapt out and ran off.

Police and sniffer dogs searched the area and within half an hour, a 34-year-old man from Woolwich had been arrested in Columbine Road, Strood, on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

He remains in custody as inquiries continue.
