Police are hunting these people after a train attack

These two people are being hunted by detectives after an attack on two off-duty police officers that left one of them unconscious.

Images of the pair have been released by British Transport Police after the assault on a train between Gillingham and Rainham on Tuesday.

The CCTV images show a woman and a man detectives would like to speak to in connection with the incident, which left both officers with face injuries.

DS Jeremy Walley said: "The two off-duty officers were travelling on the high-speed service between Gillingham and Rainham just after 10pm.

"A short while later, a man and woman boarded at Gillingham and after taking a seat opposite the officers, launched an unprovoked torrent of abuse at them.

"The man started to physically attack the officers, who informed the pair that they were under arrest. Ignoring this, the man refused to stop, punching one of the men and causing him to lose consciousness."

The duo ran from the train at Rainham and are thought to have caught a taxi from the station to the Sittingbourne area.

DS Walley added: "This was an unprovoked attack that left both officers with facial injuries.

"If you recognise either of the people in the CCTV stills, or know their whereabouts, I would like you to come forward as you may have key information."
