Police spotted on roof of building in Gillingham High Street after area taped off

Police were spotted on the roof of a building this morning after the area around a business was taped off.

Two police cars were parked outside Eunistar Afro Caribbean Hair, Beauty and Cosmetics in Gillingham High Street at around 9am.

The shop still had its shutters down at the same time, and police had taped off the area around the shop.

Firefighters have confirmed they were called at around 2am to reports of a blaze on the roof of a first-floor flat in the high street.

It had also spread to a neighbouring commercial property.

Three fire engines attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using hose reel jets.

There were no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known.

Police have confirmed inquiries are currently underway into the cause of the fire.
