Detectives are still hunting two robbers one week after they tied up two shop staff and made off with a bag full of cash.

McColls when it was robbed in August

The balaclava-clad men, one carrying a metal bar, forced their way into McColl’s in Orion Road, Rochester, in the early hours of last Wednesday.

Wearing blue, paper-looking overalls, they followed the milkman through the back door at about 5.54am.

Once inside, they tied up both the milkman and the female staff member before emptying the safe and putting the cash in a black bag. They left in the direction of nearby Association Walk.

The milkman suffered minor injuries to his face when he tried to stop the robbers getting into the shop.

The duo are said to be white, in their late 30s to early 40s and were wearing gloves.

It is the second time the newsagents has been targeted in less than a month. The shop was also robbed on Wednesday, August 29, when two men who threatened staff at knifepoint made off with thousands of pounds of takings.

Police say they are not connecting the two incidents but are linking the latest one to robberies at another McColl’s shop in Admirals Walk, Lordswood, earlier this year.

The first was on Monday, March 5, at about 5.15am when the manager of a newsagent’s shop was tied up by balaclava-clad robbers. The second robbery was on April 29 at about 9.50pm, it is not known how much money was taken during either raid.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information can call the non-emergency number 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
