A cannabis farm found inside a house has been destroyed by police.

Officers discovered the massive cultivation located in several rooms across the property in Strood after reports a burglary may have been taking place inside the house.

Police were called at 3.45am last Wednesday, August 19 but instead of finding a burglar saw dozens of cannabis plants throughout the building.

Some 54 plants - many of which were mature and fully grown beyond 6ft tall - were found along with fans, extractors and reflective material and adjustments to electrical wiring.

All of the plants have been seized and taken out of the house.

The scene was also made safe by an electrical engineer following evidence electricity was being abstracted throughout the property in Gordon Road.

Plants were found in the kitchen, living room, upstairs bedrooms and the loft.

No arrests have been made yet and officers are now working to try to establish who is responsible.

Ch Insp Mat Burbeck said: "Cultivations like this put money in the hands of organised criminals and often attract associated offending, such as anti-social behaviour.

"In addition to attracting crime, it is not unusual for people tending to the plants to be exploited by other offenders and this cannot go unchallenged.

"Cultivations are also often fuelled by abstracted electricity which is a very significant safety risk to neighbouring properties and officers attending the scene."

Anyone with information that can assist officers is asked to call Kent Police on 01634 792209 quoting 46/146404/20 or call Crimestoppers in Kent anonymously on 0800 555111, or complete the online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
