Jack, Oliver and Amelia have been revealed as the most popular baby names in Medway for 2015.

Jack is back at the top spot, sharing it with Oliver, after a two-year absence, knocking last year’s most popular name, Harry, down to third place. Jack was only the fourth most popular name last year.

New entries in the list of top 10 boys’ names include Henry, Freddie, James and Jacob.

Amelia took the top spot for girls’ names, climbing from second place. Last year’s most popular girls’ name, Olivia, has dropped to seventh place. New in the girls’ top 10 were Jessica and Daisy.

There were 37 babies called Amelia born in the Towns in 2015. One of the last to be born would have been Emma Porter’s daughter Amelia, along with her twin sister Emilee.

Miss Porter, of Walderslade Road, Chatham, had her heart set on calling the girls Emilee and Caitlynn, but changed her mind.

The 34-year-old mum of eight said: “In the end I fell in love with Amelia, we wanted to called them both really girlie names. I was actually going to call my daughter, who is now four, Amelia but ended up calling her Olivia which has also been in the top 10 list for a while.”

The girls were born at 37 weeks on December 18 and are doing really well.

Miss Porter added: “I’m a little bit worried now that Amelia will get to school and there will be lots of other girls with her name.”

Friends Claire Parsons and Claire Loach, who met at a mother and baby group, both named their boys Jack.

Miss Loach, of Ferrier Close, Parkwood, said it was really hard to choose a name. Her partner Mark Kettyles suggested Jack for their son, who was born on February 10.

She said: “I liked George throughout my pregnancy. Jack was a compromise as Mark preferred the name Jax from the TV programme Sons of Anarchy.”

Claire Parsons chose Jack for her son, who was born on March 28, because she wanted a timeless name.

The 31-year-old said: “We thought it would suit him whatever age he is.”
