Body found at Strood woodland

The identity of a man found dead in Strood woodland will not be revealed until after a post mortem.

The man was found at lunchtime on Sunday in woods between Hyacinth Road and Thurston Drive.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and it is thought the man's next of kin have now been found and informed of his death.

A post mortem is due to be carried out later this week or on Monday. An inquest is due to be opened and adjourned shortly after.

Medway coroner's office said it could not provide any details about the man until the inquest is opened.

Police sealed off the area, turning back walkers while forensic officers examined the scene on Sunday.

The wood is on the Strood Community Trail opposite the Texaco filling station on the A2 Watling Street.
