The man in charge of Children’s Services said he will not accept bad teaching after a school was placed into special measures, for the third time.

The latest Ofsted inspection report of Warren Wood Primary School and Language Unit was published this month, and the Arethusa Road school in Rochester went from requiring improvement from its last inspection, to inadequate.

It makes it the third time since 2003, when the much-loved head teacher Peter Coker died, that the school has been put in special measures.

The school failed on all four inspection areas: achievement of pupils, quality of teaching. behaviour and safety of pupils, leadership and management.

Cllr Mike O’Brien (Con), in charge of Children’s Services at Medway Council said: “I will not accept bad teaching in our schools and I am confident Warren Wood, under the new leadership, is now heading in the right direction.”

Governors have been removed from the school and it is now under the leadership of head teacher Anne Costidell and executive headteacher Sian Williams.

In the damning report lead inspector Janev Mehmet noted that "the quality of teaching is too weak to ensure pupils make the progress they are capable of".

There is also bullying in school and attendance is said to be low.

The new leadership has started to make positive changes but the report states “it is too early to judge the full impact of recent actions”.

The school is praised for its Early Years Foundation Stage where children make good progress because the teaching is engaging.
