When Jamie Ward went along to his local pub called last orders for the last time he fancied a souvenir to take home as a memento.

But his decision to walk out with the Bridge Wardens' darts scoreboard would land him in court and with a fine.

Medway Magistrates Court heard that Ward, of Maidstone Road, Rochester, had been a regular in the pub for years, and took the electric scoreboard on the closing night on Friday September 9 for sentimental reasons.

The Bridge Wardens closed last month

Landlord Nathan Morgan and colleague Ronald Hall followed him home after seeing him take the scoreboard on CCTV footage, but Ward refused to hand it over and a confrontation ensued.

Self employed builder Ward, 28, pleaded guilty to theft and another charge of using threatening words and behaviour.

But magistrates dismissed prosecution claims that the scoreboard was worth around £350, due to its age, so did not order a further payment of compensation.
