Potential students who want to join the new Medway University Technical College can find out more at information sessions starting this week.
There will be a chance to meet the principal, Dr Karon Buck, who was appointed earlier in the summer. She will be on hand to give out information on the college, including the curriculum, the school day and the partners working with the UTC.
The new-style secondary school for 14 to 19-year-olds, which will specialise in engineering and construction, is due to open next September.
The £10 million project forms part of the huge redevelopment of Chatham Docks and is sponsored and supported by the University of Greenwich, MidKent College, BAE Systems, the Royal School of Military Engineering and Delphi Diesel Systems.
The school will begin enrolling 600 Year 10 and 12 students this month in a catchment area which covers Medway, Gravesham, Maidstone, Tonbridge and Malling and Swale.
Dr Buck said: “I very much hope to see as many young people and parents or carers as possible at these events. Medway UTC is a fantastic new educational opportunity, and I hope many people will come along to find out more.”
Core GCSE subjects will be taught and there will be no homework as everything will be completed during the extended school hours from 8.30am to 5pm.
The meetings will be held on week nights and Saturday mornings at the University of Greenwich’s Medway campus, BAE Systems in Rochester and Delphi Diesel Systems in Gillingham.
The first two sessions will be at the university’s Pembroke building, Central Avenue, Chatham Maritime on Wednesday between 6pm and 7.30pm and on Saturday 10.30am and noon.
They run until Saturday, October 18. To find out more visit www.medwayutc.co.uk
