Rider comes of bike in Yokosuka Way, Gillingham and police close the road

An accident brought a main road in the Towns to a standstill for more than an hour after a motorcyclist came off his bike.

Traffic on Yokosuka Way, in Gillingham, came to a standstill and was causing long delays for motorists in the area.

Some people were reporting traffic had not moved for more than an hour.

Police say they were called out to the road, the A289 shortly before 11am.

The rider came off his bike in Yokosuka Way, Gillingham.

It is not thought the rider has suffered major injuries, but he has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Police say the road was closed while they remain at the scene, but it is understood one lane may now have been reopened.

A spokesman said: “Kent Police was called at 10.58am to a report of a man falling from a motorbike in Yokosuka Way, Gillingham.

“Officers are currently at the scene and a road closure is in place.”
