A little girl who has battled an aggressive form of cancer and was only given a 45% chance of survival, no longer has the disease, her emotional mother has announced.

Ruby Young was diagnosed with neuroblastoma just days after her second birthday.

The Rainham youngster was a very sick little girl and at the time of her diagnosis, a massive fundraising drive was set up to raise £500,000 in case she needed further treatment in the USA.

The fundraising drive was set up to raise money for Solving Kids’ Cancer charity to help Ruby, and other children like her, should they need to follow an expensive treatment path.

Her parents Vikki and Rob, together with close friend Anita Marinelli, actually reached their £500,000 target and Ms Marinelli won a Pride in Medway award in 2016 for raising the massive amount.

But now, the youngster, who is now at school, is in remission according to her mum, who posted a video on Ruby’s Facebook page, Help Ruby Laura Smash Cancer, yesterday.

At the time the money was raised, the high-profile campaign was supported on social media by celebrities including Louis Tomlinson from One Direction, musician Rick Wakeman, England fly-half Danny Cipriani and The Only Way Is Essex’s Mario Falcone.

In fact, little Ruby was also nominated for a Pride in Medway Award for her courage two years in row.

The youngster, of Monmouth Close, Rainham, had to go through another round of treatment in March this year and Vikki, who is also mum to Freddy, seven, said the family hoped it would get rid of Ruby’s last bit of cancer.

Since 2016 she has also been going, when she can, to Thames View school in Rainham and enjoys ballet.

After winning her Pride in Medway Award, Ms Marinelli set up her own charity, My Shining Star and continues to raise cash for children and their families fighting cancer, along with her friends Kim Akhurst, Gemma Justice and Natasha Armstrong.

Their goal is to ensure no child battling cancer or their family feel unsupported and struggle financially.

Yesterday, sitting next to her mum, excited Ruby told her thousands of followers she didn’t have cancer any more.

Her mum filmed the event and recorded the youngster shouting at the camera happily: “I don’t have cancer.”

At that point mum, Vikki confirms the news and cries with emotion.

The video has been watched more than 60,000 times and has been shared by 1,153 people and has 3,400 odd likes.

Ms Marinelli also posted on Facebook yesterday saying how happy she was.

She said: “This beautiful little baby, Ruby Young, ran to me in the playground shouting ‘I don’t have cancer anymore!!!’. Ruby is in remission!

"Many, many tears today.

“Absolutely over the moon for our friend and her little girl!

“She’s been through so much, without her there would be no My Shining Star and I wouldn’t know Gemma, Kim and Natasha.

“This is the happiest day.

“Thanks for all the support you’ve given this family, Ruby doesn’t have cancer!”
