Kane Ball reached the semi-finals of the ABA Championships next month with a points victory at Oxford on Sunday.

The Charlie Rumble’s Boxing Academy youngster (pictured) won a unanimous points decision in his under-57kg contest against Terry O’Reilly (MK Invicta BC), but there were defeats for Terry Avis and Zachary Clarke against two opponents both ranked No.1.

Avis impressed, despite losing his under-52kg bout against National Schoolboy champion Albert Lee, of Repton, in a close contest, which had the crowd on their feet and won the award as bout of the day.

Clarke lost to another Repton fighter, Romario Wallace, in another close under-57 contest, and Rumble said: "I have been in the sport a long time and all the boys gave their all, doing me and the club proud."

ABA managing director Keith Waters is recommending Avis for an England call-up.
