Four people were warned for going to sea inadequately equipped after being rescued from the Isle of Grain.

The Sheerness RNLI inshore lifeboat was called at 10.30am on Friday by the coastguard, who reported that an open motorboat, with two adults and two girls aged 15 and 17 aboard, had run aground between the Grain Outfall and the Martello Tower.

A tow line was attached and the craft, which had also lost rudder, was towed back to the Queenborough all tide landing where it was secured at 11.24am.

A statement from the RNLI said the four people, all from Yorkshire, were given "very strong safety advice" over the dangers of going to sea without making full safety checks and having the correct equipment.

The four had gone afloat with no lifejackets, charts or radio and were not suitably dressed for the conditions at sea.
