Fire in Vicarage Road, Gillingham, prompts safety warning

A bonfire which spread to the side of a building earlier this morning has prompted a safety warning from firefighters.

Two engines were sent to a property in Vicarage Road in Gillingham, just after 6am today after a bonfire spread to the side of a building and a large pile of rubbish.

Crews managed to put the blaze out quickly with water jets, and stop any further damage to the rest of the property. The incident was all over in half and hour, but they are now urging people to take extra care with bonfires.

They say you should always take extra care with bonfires, and to keep them well away from any buildings, trees, sheds, and other items. You should also ensure they are fully extinguished before leaving them unattended, as they could reignite at any time.
