Jonathan Plimmer, from Gillingham, had not been seen since the weekend and had been thought to be in the Rainham and Twydall area.

The 45-year-old was last seen on Saturday evening, but the police called off the search today after a body was found in the Lower Rainham Road area of Rainham.

Kent Police initially said the search was called off following the discovery of a body at Medway Bridge, but subsequently corrected the statement.

Police say formal identification has not yet taken place but the family of Mr Plimmer have been informed.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
