A Medway couple are looking for local talent to join a new cabaret night.

The Cabaret of Curiosities opened its doors at The Brook Theatre in September featuring circus, dancing, cheeky burlesque and music. It was the first in a series of events which have been set up by Hoo couple Alana Jones and Michael Imerson in conjunction with the venue in Chatham.

Michael and Alana run the arts group Dizzy O’Dare Presents and provided the finale to the Fuse Festival at Rochester Castle earlier this year.

The couple met in London where they were both pursuing their careers – Michael as an actor and musician and Alana as a dancer and tight wire artist.

They moved to Medway in 2007 and created their home, studio and rehearsal space on a boat moored at Port Werburgh in Hoo.

Alana said: “Since moving here we have met far more colourful, wonderful and genuine characters than we ever did in London.”

Alana finished a degree in dance theatre at the London’s Laban Centre before doing a second degree in Circus Theatre at The Circus Space, London.

She has been performing tight wire for the past five years and appeared at venues including The National Theatre and Glastonbury
Festival.

Alana performed her balancing act at the opening night of the Cabaret of Curiosities last month. This month’s event includes snake dancer Lil’ Bo Freak with added firework festivities, story-telling adventure from JP Lovecraft, burlesque from Becky Boobala, juggling and manipulation from The Great Deckoni, and live music from Slap Alice.
Michael, 29, said: “Our aim is to bring some alternative entertainment to Medway.

“In London there are lots of cabaret nights but there is nothing like it around here. We want to hear from any local acts who want to get involved.”
