Gillingham Anchorians remembered their former team-mate Steve Langley ahead of their matches on Saturday.

Players and spectators held a minute’s silence for the popular ex-Medway firefighter, who was shot dead at his business.

Mr Langley, 56, a father-of-two, went to Upbury Manor School in Gillingham, now Brompton Academy, and lived in the town for many years.

He died at the fishery he had run for 12 years at Bax Farm, in Lower Road, Tonge, near Sittingbourne, on Friday, November 29.

A homeless man, Simon Olsen, 54, has been charged with his murder and appeared via video link at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday where he was remanded in custody.

Mr Langley leaves a wife Lucia, teenage son, Oliver, 14, and daughter, Amy, 24, as well as two step-children and two step-grandchildren.

His brother Dean also played rugby for Anchorians.

A message posted on the Anchorians, by Phil Scott, said: “All at Gillingham Anchorians RFC are deeply shocked and saddened at the tragic news of Steve Langley’s passing and the events surrounding it.”
