Rochester skiers Emily and Charlotte Evans dominated the British Schoolgirls’ Races at Flaine in the French Alps.

Fourteen-year-old Emily, who was competing for Rochester Grammar School, finished as overall individual champion and older sister Charlotte, representing the Kandahar Ski Club, was second.

In the giant slalom Emily came first ahead of Stephanie Espinosa, from Sandown Park, with Charlotte in third place.

The following day in the slalom, Charlotte turned the tables on her sister, finishing first, with Emily second and Lottie Mayer of Queen’s Chester third.

However, when the combined scores were added up, Emily was the overall champion with Charlotte runner-up and Rachel Wyld from Millfield third.

It was a proud day for the Evans family and their father Keith was there to see it all.

In partnership with fellow pupil, 17-year-old Alex Askew, Emily helped Rochester GS to win the team title, where they beat off opposition from 48 other schools.

It was a superb performance under pressure, as the third member of their team was unable to compete and so Emily and Alex knew they had to finish both events without mishap.
