Snakey the Boa Constrictor has a slippery tale to tell - after being "on the run" for 53 days.

But the six foot pet is not hissing a word, after she was discovered yesterday in a garage near her home in St Mary’s Island, Chatham.

Snakey made national headlines when she disappeared in August.

Now she has been found and taken to a vet, where she was said to be dehydrated but in good health.

PC Mick O’Meara led the investigation, along with the owner Ashley McKenzie.

PC O’Meara of the Medway Neighbourhood Policing Unit said: "We would like to thank all the people who have helped with the search.

"Special mentions go to PC Kevin Lincoln, Chatham Maritime Security, Chatham Marina Staff and residents of the Island, especially the dog walkers and children who never gave up the search."

Snakey’s adventure, which began on August 3, is now over and she is back in a secure vivarium.
