Hero Sally Ann Sutton was honoured for her bravery in front of a star-studded audience in London last night. .

Sally Ann, from St Mary’s Island, Chatham Maritime, left, was presented with her outstanding bravery award by chat show host Paul O’Grady at the Mirror's Pride of Britain awards.

She still bears the scars of an attack by a rottweiler on Christmas Day last year. The dog had tried to attack a one-year-old in a pram before Sally Ann stepped in front of it.

She almost lost her arm in the attack.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown, singer Cheryl Cole, chef Gordon Ramsay and Rochester glamour model and presenter Kelly Brook all showed up at the awards but it was heroes such as Sally who stole the show.

Speaking whilst presenting the award, Mr O’Grady, pictured below, said: "A lot of people would have stood there frozen with fear or run away. You didn't."

But the ever modest Sally Ann, 56, said she had done ‘what anyone else would have done’.

Speaking to medwaymessenger.co.uk before the show, she said: “I don't think I did anything brave, I instinctively did what I thought anyone would do.

"I wish it had not happened, but I don't regret it because I don't think Bobbi would be here if I had not done it."

The awards will be shown on ITV tomorrow (Wednesday) starting at 8pm.
