When they arrived at the premises in Royal Eagle Close, Medway City Estate, Strood, they found hundreds of parts in a metal container.

Most are said to come from stolen Range Rovers, but other vehicle spares were also discovered.

Police remained at the scene throughout the day with a lorry being brought in to remove the items.

Chris Webb, who owns one of the adjoining yards, said he received a call from his night watchman at 4.30am to say the area was full of police.

He said: "They found carcasses of Range Rovers. I think they must have been tracking something and followed it in here.

"They opened the container up and it was full. I got here at around 5.30am and there was one gaffer sitting here in a cop car."

Chris said police weren't opening the gate for some workers to access other yards.

He added: "It has cost a lot of people money because they cannot work."

He also said stolen parts had been found there "five or six time over the past few years".
