Suspected burglars who targeted City Way, Rochester arrested in Blue Bell Hill after police chase

Two suspected burglars, whose van crashed into police cars during a chase with officers, have been arrested.

Police were called to City Way, Rochester, at 1.30pm yesterday (Friday, October 18) after reports of a burglary.

Officers tried to flag down two suspects but had to chase the vehicle in two patrol cars when it failed to stop.

Further up the road, the suspects then crashed into the chasing police officers' vehicles. No injuries were reported and minimal damage was caused.

The suspected getaway van was later found abandoned in Quinion Close, Walderslade and around one mile away, near Warren Road, Blue Bell Hill, two men were arrested.

Patrick Connors, 37, of Ripple Road, Barking, and John Smith, 34, of Old Gloucester Road, Bristol, have both been charged.

They are accused of one count of burglary and one of dangerous driving.

They are expected to appeared before magistrates in Medway today (Monday).

Both denied the charges.

They will face trial at Maidstone Crown Court on November 18.

Officers continue to investigate.
