Six suspected migrants have been spotted in a lorry.

The group, four men and two women were seen sitting on the side of a dual carriageway in Gillingham this morning.

Police confirmed the group were inside a vehicle after officers were called to Ito Way at 10.50am.

Spokesman Sally Smith said: "Six people will be taken to Dover and handed into the care of Home Office Immigration Enforcement."

A small section of the road was cordoned off as police spoke to the group.

The lorry driver was not arrested.

A spokesman for the Home Office said: "The Home Office was contacted by Kent Police at 12pm after police officers attended an incident on Ito Way, Gillingham.

Six people were referred to the Home Office and are being interviewed by immigration officials. They included four men, three of whom presented themselves as Eritrean and one who presented himself as Ethiopian, and two women who also presented themselves as Eritrean.

Their cases will be dealt with according to the immigration rules.

"The lorry driver was not arrested."
