A Gillingham man has been jailed just three days after burgling a petrol station.

David Solly was arrested after a raid at the BP service station, in Anthony's Way, Medway City Estate, on Saturday.

The 31-year-old, of Richmond Road, was spotted rummaging though people's belongings in the staff area at about 6.30pm.

But a staff member disturbed Solly and he left empty handed. Police officers identified him from CCTV footage and Solly was arrested on Sunday.

He was charged with burglary with intent and possession of a class A drug.
Solly appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court on Tuesday in a virtual hearing. He pleaded guilty to the offences and was jailed for 210 days.

DS Darren Ryder, of Medway Police, said: "This was a brazen attempt by Solly to steal items belonging to members of staff at the service station.

"Fortunately he was spotted acting suspiciously and was easily identified thanks to the CCTV images.

"Offenders such as Solly will take advantage of any small insecurity so we are reminding members of the community to make sure they stay alert and report any suspicious activity to Kent Police.

"In this case, Solly was left with no option other than to admit to the offence and we are pleased that he has been dealt with quickly and jailed."
