Veran Toomy of Devon Close, Chatham and Billy-Jo Ellis charged with knifepoint robbery of taxi driver at Texaco garage, City Way, Rochester

A man and woman have been charged with robbery after a taxi driver was threatened with a knife and had money stolen at a petrol station.

The cabbie had pulled into the forecourt of the Texaco garage on City Way, Rochester when the alleged incident took place inside his car in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The police were called just before 2am and arrested two people who were found in a nearby alleyway.

Veran Toomey, 38, of Devon Close, Chatham, and Billy-Jo Ellis, 25, of no fixed address, have been charged with robbery and possession of a knife.

Toomey was remanded in custody and Ellis was released on bail.

They are both due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, October 24.
