Medway’s Jamie Johnson will sing in the nerve-racking battle rounds of The Voice on Saturday.
Millions are expected to tune in as the 19-year-old competes with fellow Team Kylie member Joe Keegan for a place in the next round of the BBC talent show.
Jamie, from Gillingham, says the tension is mounting.
The former MidKent College and Brompton Academy student said: “It’s really hard because we all we all hang out together and get on with each other.
“When I heard that I had been paired up with Joe, it was good and bad news.
"Good because we are mates and respect each other and bad because it is after all a competition and I knew I would have to up my game.”
Jamie has forged a friendship with his mentor Kylie Minogue who has drafted in Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears to assist her.
Jamie said: “She is a genuinely nice person who is interested in what you do. She is down to earth and comfortable to be around.
“Jake is amazing to work with.”
Jamie said mum Sharla, a district nurse, gets recognised around Medway more than him.
He said: “She’s stopped in the street and they say ‘you’re the mum of that bloke on The Voice.’”
Tune into The Voice on BBC One at 7pm to see how Jamie gets on.
